Why Not Install Over Shingles?

 

Steel Roofing has to expand and contract with temperature changes.

 

 

Place your hand on a shingle and rub it back and forth a few thousand times, that is what your metal panels will experience over the course of just one year.

Shingles are like the coarsest sandpaper made.

"But it's ok, they are using furring strips." No they are creating cavities where temperature changes will create condensation that will rot out those non womanized 2 x 4's in no time. If you use furring strips they must be womanized and installed with the proper coated fasteners. But then the roofing will have to be install with galvanized fasteners as well...... What's the point? Just remove the shingles and do it right!

If you remove the layers of shingles on your roof, you relieve weight and stress, and it gives you a chance to examine the roof decking for rot and damage that you may not have known about.

Once checked, you can have a synthetic felt underlayment installed for your new metal roof to rest on for the next 50 years.

 

Professionals will never install 45 year steel roofing products over layers of bad shingles
